Support for students affected by recent global events in the Middle East

A joint statement from the University of Exeter and Exeter Students’ Guild.

We remain deeply concerned and distressed by the escalation of violence in Israel and Gaza. Our thoughts are with all those who are suffering as a result, wherever they are in the world. We know that the impacts of the tragic loss of life are wide and deep, and we are working to support those members of our University who have been most closely affected.

Our community stands together against all acts of violence and hatred. We have been heartened, but not surprised, to see staff and students from all backgrounds coming together to support each other this week. We work to foster a community where those from all ethnic and religious backgrounds feel safe, valued, and included.

Together we wish to restate that there is no place for hate in our community, and that we all have a role to play in standing against all forms of intolerance.

How to report

We urge anyone who has witnessed or experience any form of abuse to use the Exeter Speaks Out tool to report incidents.

Our campus security teams are mobile, response-based services covering all aspects of security, safety and welfare for staff and students on our campuses. They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Support for our Students

This will be a stressful and worrying time for many in our community. If you need support, or someone to talk to, please do get in touch with Wellbeing Services in Exeter and Cornwall for support and guidance; they are here to help.

If your studies, including examinations and assessments, are affected by your personal circumstances, then the Mitigation process is here to support you. Mitigation works by giving you extra time to complete your assignments, or the chance to take your exam later in the year.
