A candidate statement introduces the candidate and tells students why they’re standing in the election.
Any current University of Exeter student based on Streatham or St Luke’s campus can apply for the elected positions. Even if you are away on a placement or year abroad.
These elections decide who’ll lead your Students’ Guild – the people who’ll speak up for you, champion student issues, and hold the University to account. Voting is your chance to shape what student life looks like. Whether it’s better support, a stronger community, or new ideas, it starts with your vote.
Single Transferable Vote (STV) is a way of voting that lets you rank candidates in order of preference, instead of just picking one. That means you can put:
This system is designed to make sure the winner has real support from students, not just the most votes in a split race. Here’s how it works in simple terms:
What this means for you:
All candidates are expected to follow the Elections rules, which are there to make sure things stay fair and transparent for everyone taking part. Our Deputy Returning Officers (DROs), members of Guild staff, are here to make sure everything runs smoothly and in line with those rules.
If you think a rule has been broken or have a concern about any part of the Elections, you can submit a complaint using the Complaints Form (Leadership Elections 2026).
Here’s what you need to know:
Once you submit your complaint, our DRO will review it and get back to you with an outcome within one working day.
If you’re not happy with the result and want to appeal, email us at elections@exeterguild.com. We’ll pass your appeal on to the National Union of Students (NUS) for a second investigation.
Please note: NUS decisions are final and can’t be appealed further.
Because the changes made now can still impact you. Final-year voices help shape graduation, assessments, feedback, and more. Plus, leaving a better Exeter behind? That’s a legacy move. Make your last year count by choosing a leader who can make the improvements you wish you had.
Voting is all online – super quick, super easy.

RON stands for Re-Open Nominations. It’s a built-in option in every election.
If RON wins, it means students didn’t feel the current candidates were the right fit – and the election for that role will run again. It’s another way to make your voice heard.
We’ll be announcing your next Education & Employability Officer and Student Life & Communities Officer on 13 February at our Elections Night Event. Come along and be the first to find out! Sign up on FIXR.
