Data Protection Statement

Due to safety and security matters, the University of Exeter Students' Guild believes there is a legitimate interest in utilising cctv protection.

The Students' Guild has a CCTV Scheme in operation with in excess of 40 cameras. These cover Devonshire House, the Ram and the Lemon Grove. The systems are accessed and limited to in-house trained CCTV operatives who hold the Security Industry Authority Public Space Surveillance License.

The purpose of the system is:

  • to assist in safeguarding the welfare of staff, students and visitors to the Students' Guild premises.
  • to provide improved security of Students' Guild and University property
  • to assist in the prevention, deterrence and detection of crime

Right to access your recordings/images

If you wish to obtain recordings/images of yourself then please complete a Subject Access Request form here.

Please note that we hold 30 days worth of recordings where it is then overwritten. We do not store or archive recordings unless it was used as part of an investigation or formed part of a Subject Access Request in which case we would retain it in accordance with our data retention policy.

Data Sharing

Disclosure of recorded material will only be made available to third parties in accordance with the purposes of the system and in compliance with the Data Protection Act.

Governance

The CCTV system is governed by a strict code of practice which takes into account the Data Protection Act 2018 and Human Rights Act 1998
