Industrial Action
No Industrial Action
This October, staff represented by UCU, Unison and Unite took part in votes to decide whether they wanted to take industrial action over pay.
The results show that none of the three unions reached the 50% turnout needed for industrial action to go ahead, which means there will be no strike action or action short of a strike following this vote. We know many of you have been worried about what this could mean for your teaching, assessments or placements, so we hope this brings a bit of breathing space.
National conversations about pay will carry on in the background, but right now, your day-to-day university life won’t be disrupted by industrial action. If anything changes, you’ll hear it from us clearly and quickly.
How are we supporting and representing your voice?
We know potential industrial action can feel scary, and we want you to know that your experience, your rights and your wellbeing are at the heart of everything we’re doing right now.
Our job is to make sure your voice is heard loudly and clearly, and that you’re supported through any industrial action. If action does occur, your elected Officers, reps and Department Officers are prepped to meet with the University to ensure clear protections for your education, make sure your learning isn’t compromised, and call for a swift resolution that avoids disruption for students.
If all of this feels overwhelming, you’re not on your own. You can always reach out to Wellbeing Services or speak to our Advice team for free, confidential support. We’re here to help you feel informed, supported and heard every step of the way.
