Pubs are a big thing for the student community in Exter. They serve as a hub of university social life and a space where different groups meet and students can have fun. Here is my guide to student friendly pubs and bars in Exeter. Many are local favourites and are recommended by me and students.
The Victoria Inn – The Victoria Inn (also known as The Vic) is the pinnacle of student pubs. No matter what time of day you go, it is full of familiar faces and bustling with our student community. Located on the corner of Union Road and Victoria Street, the pub is located in the heart of a student area. With affordable prices, it is a great choice to for students.
The Ram Bar – The flagship bar on campus, the RAM has been serving our community for years. With a new and inclusive pool table room, plus plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, it’s the go-to spot for a relaxed pint. With brilliant student deals and amazing food, it's friendly, cheap and convenient.
Old Fire House – Known for their famous square pan pizzas, the Old Fire House (known by students as Firehouse) is a staple of Exeter student pub life. Located on New North Road, it's known for its lively atmosphere, extensive beer and cider selection, plus quiz nights, it’s a brilliant all-rounder. Be cautious, this pub is not budget friendly.
The Black Horse – A very spacious and traditional pub, the Black Horse offers great value pints and a relaxed vibe, ideal for a student crowd. With pool tables and student discounts available, it's highly recommended. Located on Longbrook Street, it’s in the heart of the student community and is also close to the city centre. They also host a brilliant pub quiz every Thursday.
St Anne’s Well – A brilliant all-rounder of a pub, St Anne’s is known for its happy hour prices, brilliant drink selection and quiet atmosphere. Located on Well Street, it is also in the heart of the student community and very close to the city centre. The pub also has a student loyalty card where for every 8 drinks purchased you get one free.
The Duke of York – Whilst not the most popular with the student community, this pub is a very affordable pub that offers plenty of student discounts. Located on the corner of Sidwell Street and York Road, it is in a great location. They also have plenty of sports on offer to watch.
Ludo Sports and Live Lounge – Located in the city centre, Ludo’s is a lively sports bar with big screens, games, and a fun atmosphere. For those into live sports, it is brilliant with more screens that you can lay your eyes on. They also have a darts area, perfect for students. Based on American sports bars, Ludo’s takes you across the pond as soon as you step foot in the building.
Henry’s Bar – Known among students for very affordable drink deals and a lively sociable crowd, Henry’s is an amazing bar. With their drink tokens for student deals, students are able to come back if they don’t want to consume all the drinks purchased.
