This year, your Students' Guild, in collaboration with societies, the University, and various external organisations will lead 16 days of impactful events and actions. Together, we are committed to creating a supportive environment where everyone can learn, engage, and advocate for change.
Violence against women is a societal issue, and everyone has a role to play —because together, we can make a difference.
The 16 Days of Activism provides us with a perfect opportunity to make some noise around safety here in Exeter. In 2022 we surveyed students around night safety and over 3/4 of respondents said they have experienced or witnessed racism, homophobia, sexual violence and other behaviours we should not have to stand for. I'm leading this campaign as part of my Officer Priorities for anyone who has felt unsafe walking home, anyone who has felt as though their freedom has been taken away from them, and anyone who is angry, upset, or hurt at this time.
We have so much planned, from awareness-raising to community building to activism and a march. However you want to get involved, we will welcome and empower you. And if you can't, we will show up for you. Make the noise, tell your friends, and let's take back some power together.

White Ribbon Day is a time to highlight the important role that all men play in preventing and ultimately ending violence against women and girls.
You can show that change starts with you this White Ribbon Day by:
Wearing a white ribbon
Call out behaviour when it is safe to do so, and check the victim is ok
Listening to women’s experiences and how you can contribute to inclusive spaces
Spark important conversations with friends and discuss the ways you can be a better ally
Activism doesn’t end after 16 days: it’s an ongoing commitment to fostering a safer, more inclusive world. Beyond this campaign, you can continue to make a difference by staying informed, speaking out against harmful behaviours, and supporting those around you. Being an ally means actively listening, educating yourself and others, and advocating for change in both big and small ways.
Whether it’s joining local initiatives, attending workshops, or simply engaging in conversations about these issues, every action counts. Together, we can build a community where everyone feels valued, respected, and safe.
